Strengthening of urban resilience: Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih
The war in Ukraine has led to significant changes in the housing stock and infrastructure. Three major cities in the eastern part of the country are under constant threat: Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih. The local economies have deteriorated, and demographics have shifted. These cities play a crucial role in the regional context. However, the information available to municipalities about damage, demographics, local potential, and crisis needs is incomplete, and the connection between urgent needs and long-term improvements is fully or partially missing.
The work of the urban coalition Ro3kvit, within the framework of the "Strengthening the Resilience of Cities" project, involves data collection, needs assessment (and potential projects for implementation), and spatial strategies. The main focus is on content and recommendations for enhancing the resilience of Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Dnipro in all aspects, with an emphasis on linking short-term projects to long-term perspectives.
Ro3kvit aims to provide support in identifying priority and urgent projects for implementation, as well as expertise in connecting today's crisis needs with the future development of these cities.
The project team includes Anton Herasymovych, Ruslan Antonenko, Dmytro Matviishyn, Anna Huskovska, Sofia Bondar, Iryna Tsyba, Anna Lytovka, Karolina Michel-Makaya, and Yevhen Kabasin.
The "Strengthening of Urban Resilience" project is funded by the German government and implemented by the German government company Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
