Ukrainian municipalities present pilot projects at Stockholm Summit

Last week in Stockholm, participants of the “Rethinking Cities 2.0” programme presented their pilot projects and engaged with international partners to explore pathways for implementation.

A key moment of the visit was the Stockholm Summit – Rethinking Cities in Ukraine, which brought together representatives of municipalities, government institutions, international organisations, and the private sector. Discussions focused on how to translate local needs into structured, investment-ready projects and how to build partnerships necessary for their realisation in the context of Ukraine’s recovery.

During the Summit, Ukrainian municipalities presented their initiatives and received feedback from potential partners, helping to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for further development and collaboration.

Alongside the conference, participants took part in a series of study visits and exchange sessions with Swedish counterparts. These included visits to Södertörns Fjärrvärme, a district heating company, and the Käppala wastewater treatment plant, as well as peer-to-peer discussions with Swedish municipalities on infrastructure management and urban development practices.

The visit provided a platform not only for presenting projects, but also for advancing them — supporting a shift from early-stage ideas toward more structured proposals and initial partnerships required for implementation.

The programme is organised by the Stockholm School of Business, Stockholm University, and the urban coalition Ro3kvit, with financial support from the Swedish Institute’s Cooperation Programme in Ukraine.
