Final Event of the Project “Communities at the Heart of Urban Changes”: Outcomes and Participatory Toolkit

As part of the project “Communities at the Heart of Urban Changes,” a final event was held to reflect on the joint work and to present the project’s key outcomes.

During the event, the Ro3kvit team and project partners discussed the experience gained throughout the project, the challenges of participatory processes in complex contexts, and the role of urban communities in shaping decisions during times of crisis and recovery.

A central outcome of the event was the presentation of a participatory toolkit — a practical set of tools designed for working with communities under conditions of uncertainty, war, and post-war recovery.

The toolkit is based on approaches and practices tested in specific Ukrainian contexts. It supports a more critical understanding of when participatory formats are appropriate and when they require rethinking. The toolkit was developed in collaboration with Dutch partners INBO, STIPO, and Play the City, as an attempt to adapt their participatory design experience to the realities of war in Ukraine.

The participatory toolkit is available on the Ro3kvit website in Ukrainian and English and may be useful for municipalities, civil society organisations, urban practitioners, and facilitators.

The project “Communities at the Heart of Urban Changes” is implemented by the urban coalition Ro3kvit in cooperation with Dutch partners INBO, STIPO, and Play the City, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
