We are pleased to invite you to the fifth annual symposium “Rebuilding a Place to Call Home 2026: Resilient Cities & Regenerative Neighbourhoods”. Over two days, Ukrainian and international researchers, public officials, architects, urban planners, and other experts will share knowledge, present practical case studies, and discuss new approaches to recovery planning and implementation, contributing to the advancement of policies and practices for more resilient and just Ukrainian cities.
The symposium programme is organised around four thematic tracks. Each day, two parallel tracks will take place simultaneously.
Day 1:
1. Social Dimension of Resilience: Justice Throughout Recovery. This track explores how gender, the economy of care, and inclusive participation can be embedded into the policies and practices shaping Ukraine's urban recovery, ensuring that recovery processes respond to the needs of diverse communities.Chair: Elena Archipovaite
2. Comprehensive Picture of Urban Resilience. This track examines how municipalities can strengthen urban resilience through more effective use of resources, cross-sector collaboration, and innovative solutions. Discussions will focus on resilient infrastructure, multifunctional landscapes, energy-efficient neighbourhoods, and other approaches to Ukraine's green recovery.Chairs: Anastasia Popovych and Anna Kuzyshyn
Day 2:
3. Spatializing Justice amid Wartime Transformations. This track focuses on the role of spatial planning in advancing more just recovery processes. Discussions will explore new planning instruments and the role of public discourse in shaping the future of Ukrainian settlements.Chairs: Nataliia Mysak and Kateryna Malaia
4. Holistic renovation of Socialist-era districts and housing. This track addresses the renovation of buildings and neighbourhoods through integrated architectural, organisational, financial, and policy approaches, while drawing on European experience and lessons applicable to Ukraine.Chairs: Rūta Leitanaitė, Martynas Marozas and Oleksandr Anisimov

The fifth annual symposium is jointly organised by the Centre for Land and Housing Research at Kharkiv School of Architecture, School of Public Governance at Ukrainian Catholic University, Ro3kvit Urban Coalition for Ukraine, GIZ projects EU4ClimateResilience and JGURA.
