Three Communities in Lviv Region Begin Microdistrict Renewal with Ro3kvit
Last weekend, the urban coalition Ro3kvit held a series of participatory workshops in three communities of the Lviv region — Truskavets, Drohobych (Stebnyk), and Stryi — as part of a project to develop microdistrict revitalization concepts.
On October 11, despite the rain, residents of the “New Stebnyk” neighborhood gathered at the local community center in Stebnyk. Following the closure of the Polimineral industrial plant, the town is searching for a new, more human-centered and sustainable identity. During the workshop, participants identified key strengths and challenges of the area and co-created a preliminary “map of needs,” highlighting spaces with development potential as well as underused sites.
Special attention was given to Molodizhnyi Park, an 8-hectare green area with mature trees and a lake with a small island. Residents shared ideas on how to activate the park — from quiet recreation zones to open-air events.
In Stryi, discussions focused on the future of the neighborhood near the hospital, with an emphasis on greener streets, reduced car traffic, and truly people-centered urban design. In Truskavets, the team worked with a complex site characterized by steep terrain, centered around the idea of transforming a former boiler house into a cultural hub and rethinking the surrounding area.
The project “Microdistrict Development Concepts in the Lviv Region (Truskavets, Drohobych, Stryi)” is implemented by Ro3kvit in partnership with local communities and with the support of UN-Habitat Ukraine / the UN-Habitat Office in Ukraine.
